Physical Installation Procedures:
Halo Installation Best Practices
The HALO sensor integration combines the power of HALO’s advanced environmental and security monitoring capabilities with the insights of our video surveillance platform. This integrated solution provides real-time alerts, detailed event information, and seamless access to associated video footage, empowering users to proactively address potential threats, improve safety, and create a more positive environment for customers and employees.

Best Practices for Mounting:
Universal “Golden Rules” (All Locations)
Failure to follow these rules will result in false alarms or hardware failure.
- The HVAC Rule: NEVER install within 3 feet of a Supply Vent (Air blowing in). The clean air “shield” will blind the sensor. DO install near Return Vents (Air sucking out) to capture airflow.
- The Dead Zone Rule: Keep at least 2 feet away from walls and corners to allow 360° airflow and sound capture.
- The Obstruction Rule: Do not install behind suspended obstructions (signs, decorations, light fixtures) that block the line of sight or airflow.
Deployment Templates by Location
1. QSR Kitchen (Focus: Air Quality & Heat Stress)
Environment: High heat, grease, humidity.
- Placement Strategy: “Safe Zone” Monitoring. Place the unit in the “clean” zone of the kitchen where staff work, downstream from prep but upstream from the exhaust hood.
- Best Location: Near the Prep Station, Pass-Through, or Manager’s Desk.
- Critical Exclusion: NEVER install inside the exhaust hood or directly above fryers/grills. Grease will destroy the sensor.
- Target Height: 5’ – 6’ (Flush Mount).
2. QSR Dining Room (Focus: Customer Comfort & BAS)
Environment: Variable occupancy, door drafts.
- Placement Strategy: “Center of Comfort.” Place centrally in the main seating area to average out CO2 and temperature readings for HVAC integration.
- Best Location: Center of the dining room ceiling.
- Critical Exclusion: Maintain a 10-foot buffer from main entrance doors to avoid reading outdoor exhaust/humidity.
- Target Height: 9’ – 12’.
3. Convenience Store (Focus: Safety & Aggression)
Environment: High shelving, background noise (coolers).
- Placement Strategy: “Acoustic Priority.” Place units where verbal altercations or robberies are most likely to occur.
- Best Locations:
- Cash Wrap: Ceiling mounted, slightly to the customer side (Aggression/Robbery).
- Vestibule: Inside the main doors (Gunshot detection).
- Blind Aisles: At rear “T” intersections (Assault/Theft).
- Critical Exclusion: Avoid placement near Compressors (Loud Hum), Speakers (music), or Door Motors to prevent audio interference.
- Target Height: 8’ – 10’ for optimal microphone clarity.
4. Restrooms (Focus: Vape, Safety, Wellness)
Environment: Private, aerosol-heavy.
- Placement Strategy: “Source Capture.” Align with the natural exit path of the air (Return Vents).
- Best Locations:
- Stall Bank: Centered over the walkway between stalls and sinks (Vape).
- Sink Area: Centered near mirrors (Aggression/Bullying).
- Critical Exclusion: If stalls have floor-to-ceiling privacy walls, one unit per stall is required.
- Target Height: 8’ – 9’. Do not mount higher than 10’ without a pendant, as vape smoke dissipates.
